To Whom It May Concern This letter is a reference for Nicholas Kerr who has been a part-time music teacher (guitar, bas and drums) at Bridge House School, for the past two years. He taught children from 8 years to 17 years over the period of time. Nicholas is reliable, conscientious and kind. Not only is he a talented musician himself, but he also shares his talent with his students so that they in turn experience the joy of learning to play their instrument. As a teacher, Nicholas is patient and he adapts his approach to each student's musical developmental requirements. He has experience in teaching from Trinity Rock & Pop, and the Rockschool syllabi. He makes an effort to source popular songs which his students can relate to, and to assist them in developing their technical skill. Nicholas also encourages his students to write their own songs and to use improvisational techniques. Nicholas has been an asset to the Musical Department at Bridge House School. I wish him well for his future endeavours. You are welcome to contact me ######@bridgehouse.org.za if you have any further questions. Yours sincerely Adele Bate Head of Individual Music ________________________________________________________________________ Saskia Blaisse Franschhoek, 24 October 2014 To Whom It May Concern: I herewith would like to highly recommend Nicholas Kerr as a music teacher at Bridge House School. Chrissie started at the beginning of this year with Nicholas as her guitar teacher. He is an inspiring, enthusiastic teacher, motivating Chrissie to love playing her guitar. Chrissie made quick progress and started to love to go to guitar lessons more and more. A 30-minute lesson soon turned out to be too short. Besides the fact that he communicates well with Chrissie, Nicholas also established a good relation with me as a parent. Not an unimportant detail. Please contact me for any further questions. Kind regards, Saskia Blaisse ________________________________________________________________________ Robert McKay Franschhoek 7690 Letter of Reference for Nicholas Kerr To Whom It May Concern I have known Nicholas Kerr for the past 12 years. I taught Nicholas and was his soccer coach when he attended Bridge House College. His passion for music was already well-developed and I have fond memories of “reminding” Nicholas and Philip Malan (a fellow pupil) that they had soccer and not music practice. He was also one of the first pupils to achieve his Bronze President’s Award when I took over programme at Bridge House. I lost touch with Nicholas when he went to study at Rhodes University but the contact was reestablished when we met in Franschhoek last year. Nicholas had started his music tutoring business. At the same time my son was talking of given up his music lessons. I suggested he give Nicholas a try and it was wonderful to see his passion for music reignited. He describes Nicholas as a dedicated and excellent musician who is able to make music enjoyable. I have witnessed the effects of Nicholas on my son’s interest in music and they are all positive. Considering my son is not a “natural” it is heartening to see Nicholas’s influence. I have had similar reports from other parents whose children attend Nicholas’s lessons and from an adult friend who is a pupil of Nicholas. It is clear that Nicholas possesses a “teacher’s passion” for the subject and there is no doubt he is an accomplished musician. He runs his music instruction business professionally and all the lessons have started and ended on time. Nicholas has a relaxed and gentle persona but behind that is the passion I spoke of, backed by self-discipline and clear expectations. Nicholas quietly draws lines in the sand that are non-negotiable. I think this gentle but incredibly firm approach is a wonderful combination in a music instructor. Nicholas has the ability and the personality to bring something unique to any music programme. I have no hesitation in recommending him for any position he applies for. Go well Rob McKay Parent of one of Nicholas’s pupils Past teacher of Nicholas ________________________________________________________________________ William and Terry George Dear Nicholas, Just a quick note to thank you for the effort you are putting in with Aidan. Both Terry and I have noticed he has come on in leaps and bounds since you took over his lessons and he is enjoying his music immensely. Regards, William and Terry (and Aidan) [The above message is in regard to drum lessons and sent by William George who is a guitar student of mine and the farther to Aiden George, who is my drum student and a pupil at Bridge House].
